Holy Smokes!

Beatless

I’m “grooving” out to“Music from Atlas Dei” by Robert Rich right now.  He’s one of those beatless ambient musicians and it’s sooo relaxing.  It’s very organic and would be really great meditation music actually.  I think it’s really funny that I heard about this guy by reading Wil Wheaton’s blog and seeing his recently played tracks on Last.fm.  Gosh, I am such a dork.

I had a pretty nice day Tuesday.  It would have been better if I had gotten more sleep, but oh well.  Insomnia is my drug of choice apparently.  It was nice though since my boss was out of the office for most of the day.  I still wasn’t able to get any work done though since I was tired and we had a lot of calls as well.  Ugh, I really need to get back on top of things and strive to be more organized.  It’s killing me.

I did get to the beach too and it was one of the more interesting beach days this summer.  The water was awesomely clear when I got there.  I spent quite a bit of time just swimming with my head underwater so I could look at the sand.  My swim buddy told me to come look at something and I saw something that looked like sand being moved around because of some freak current.  Upon closer inspection, it was a weird looking rock fish that totally blended into the sand and was moving itself along with 2 disproportionally long fins.  It was so odd.  I have never seen anything like that before.

Because we had seen that fish, we decided to explore the side of Ala Moana that we never check out to look for more fish.  It was neat.  There were all of these little “funnels” which I think were crab holes.  There would also be differently colored sand in cone shaped piles all over the place too.  There were also all of these little track marks, which actually looked like bird tracks in the sand, but I think there were actually crab tracks!  The water got murkier getting closer to Magic Island, but right before the visibility became zero, I actually came upon a school of fish!  That was neat!  The fish were maybe 6 inches in length and very slender.  I have no idea what species they were.

I also saw most of the Honolulu mayoral debate on TV tonight.  That was interesting.  I know that there are several people running for mayor, but I guess the news station and OHA only chose the top 3 contenders for the debate.  Of course rail transit was the #1 issue.

I thought Mufi did pretty well – primarily because he was the only one who seemed to have a plan.  Panos and Kobayashi just seemed to be there to oppose Hanneman.  I can’t quite put my finger on it since I didn’t get to watch the whole thing, but that’s what my gut tells me.  Panos is probably too “foreign” for the voters of Honolulu, but who knows.  Rail transit seems to be a pretty touchy issue for us right now and I honestly do not know how I feel about it.

Yes, traffic in Honolulu is getting to be a nightmare most of the time.  Although it doesn’t affect me too much right now because I live in a pretty good location in town and my work hours don’t coincide with the regular rush hour.  I do think that Honolulu needs some kind of rapid transit system.  I am also of the opinion that it should have been built 20 or 30 years ago.  I don’t know who or if anyone actually planned out Honolulu, but I think a lot of our transit problems are actually caused by extremely poor urban planning from waaaay back in the day.  Yea, I can bitch and moan about it, but it’s not like that is going to change the state of the city right now.

Anywho.  I actually do want to devote some time to some political posts, but I am so exhausted right now.  I really should have gone to bed 3 hours ago.  At least I have Project Runway to look forward to in the evening.
