Okay, I don’t watch American Idol, but I might have to after seeing this.

Bored

I am feeling much better now, but my computer is still hosed – – hence the lack of updates and pictures.

I decided against taking it to a shop – mostly because I am cheap and did something that I didn’t want to do – I called tech support. I figured a call should be better than online support and after telling the fella what was going on, I should be getting some new recovery disks in the mail tomorrow. I did a couple of hard drive tests via the BIOS and they all came back as passing, so I guess my hard drive is okay, although I still think that there is something wrong with it. Of course, the problem with my recovery disks could also be because the version of XP that came with the system was the original release and I of course switched to SP2, although I don’t know how that would make a difference since the computer should just do an update to SP2 after installation, but whatevers.

I am just really, really, really hoping that the cd’s I get tomorrow will be able to install the OS since I really would like my computer back. I was getting to the point where I was getting ready to blow my savings on a new laptop, but then I realized that was just kind of silly.

Although my Mom is now seriously considering getting a new computer, which is awesome because her machine is pretty darn crappy. Well, I consider it pretty crappy because it doesn’t have enough RAM in it in order to run anything decently and yes, it could be fixed with just getting more RAM, but I also think that a new machine would be better for her and for me in the long run. At least if she gets a new computer, it would have a DVD drive so she could watch some movies in her room without having to get a new TV.

Since I haven’t been able to waste so much time web surfing, I have been trying to get my craft on these last few nights. I painted some 4×4 squares base coats of some fun colored paint, but I still can’t figure out how I want to finish them because the idea I had to use paint sample punch outs isn’t working like I wanted it to. Although, hmm, I could make punch outs in masking tape and that would work. Cool.

I also made some green mod polymer clay pieces so I can make some earrings and a pendant. They will also be my test pieces for using our knockoff dremel tool that I have been dying to use but never had a project to use it on – until now. Yea!

I’ve also been really jonesing to finally do some resin pieces, but I am having a hard time getting started doing that because of the cat. She hasn’t jumped up on the table in awhile, but I would have for her to jump on the table while I am pouring resin and she knocks the stuff over and gets poisoned by it. Yea, I worry about that kind of stuff.

I’ve also been psyching myself up to get a haircut. I was going to do it last night, but I got to the hair place and just got so nervous about it, I chickened out. I’ve been meaning to cut my hair for a year now, but I stopped myself after the breakup because that seemed like such a typical female thing to do. But now that I realize that my hair goes down to my butt when it’s wet and that I never wear it down anymore, I figure a change might be a good thing now. Of course I was going to go tonight, but I lost my nerve again.

I told my friend Fred about my hair anxiety and he might drag me along to his haircut tomorrow since it is at one of those hair cutting schools and is super cheap. They do have instructors there in case the students really fucks up, but hopefully it won’t be too bad.

One thing I came across today that I think is really neat is this service from Blurb. You basically download their software to workout on the layout and you can make your own book! Yes, it is similar to making your own photobooks from sites like Qoop, but this service also allows you to make a book from your blog! How cool is that? Very cool!

Of course seeing these wonderful digital printing services makes me covet this even more:

Canon Digital Rebel XTi

Anybody out there wanna buy that for me?

Under The Weather

Uggggh, I am still sick.  It really isn’t as bad as it was a few days ago, but I am still coughing every once in awhile.  I think I just needed some sleep and wasn’t really able to get it the last couple of days.

I still haven’t taken my laptop in.  I guess it’s because I have a feeling that they won’t be able to install windows xp even if I take it in.  If they can’t, then I know I am going to have to get a full version of Vista.  I guess I am procrastinating because I don’t want to spend the $100 plus for some dude to tell me that an XP installation just won’t work and then have to fork out another $300 for the stupid OS.  Grrr.  This is really annoying.  I should probably try contacting HP since I think my 1 year warranty isn’t up yet, although I seem to remember it is 1 year on hardware and maybe 3 months on software.  Grrrr.

I was going to take it down today, but my Mom decided to run some errands and didn’t get back until after 4 this afternoon and the place closes at 4pm.  Grrr.  I really wanted to get out of the house today and do some me stuff.

I finally figured out the color scheme I wanted in my room.  It might be considered a bit juvenile, but I am going to go with aqua and purple.  I got a curtain for my window the other day, but of course I bought it without measuring the window first and found out it was about 10 inches too short in width.  Doh.

I am going to repaint the furniture in there to a pink-purplish color and thought it would be cool if I make my own knobs for the drawers using resin.  So, I wanted to hit a craft store today to check out the molds in comparison to the current knob, but alas that looks like it will have to wait until tomorrow too since my Mom took the car to go out to dinner with her friend too.  Grrr.

Quiet

Well, the mainland family have all left and gone back – thank goodness.  I am quite enjoying the quiet around here.

My cousin Jeff left Tuesday and that afternoon an appraiser came by to appraise the house.  The guy said that it would take a week to 10 days to get the report and then my Mom is going to go to the bank to see about a loan to buy my Aunt out.  Of course, I keep having to remind my Mom that the selling price should not be based on the appraisal alone and that we really need an inspection or a contractor to come in and give us an estimate of the cost of repairs here too – before we come up with a figure for the buyout.  I will admit that there was a glimmer of hope that my Aunt would ask us for a ridiculously low figure to buy her out because well, we took care of Grandma, but it doesn’t look that way at all.

It seems like she is getting, well, greedy and is trying to soak us for every penny of worth that my Grandma left.  I don’t really want to get into the financials of things, but I’ll just say that she is trying to reap as much financial benefit as possible – without any type of expenditure on her part.  She just expects my Mom to give her all of this money and not pay for any expenses associated with the funeral or probate or lawyer’s fees or home maintenance and it is really pissing me off.

It just really irks me because she moved away over 40 years ago and never offered to help take care of Grandma.  She hardly ever saw her too except when Grandma would go visit her for maybe 1 or 2 months a year over the last 10 years.

Anyways, Wednesday was our first free day at home in over a month and I spent most of the day just relaxing.  We went out to dinner with one of my Mom’s friends and I started to feel really lousy when we got home.  Not because of the food, but I guess I caught some kind of cold.  I was going to take my laptop to the repair place Thursday but I felt so crappy, I just didn’t want to leave the house.  The washer and dryer arrived that day and so I did watch part of one load because it’s neat!, but I spent most of the day and evening sleeping.

The Yes MenI was going to go to bed early, but I rented a copy of The Yes Men and watched that instead.   It was quite entertaining.  The Yes Men are pranksters “who practice what they call “identity correction.”  They set up a fake WTO website and since some people don’t pay attention to detail, they would receive invitations to speak at these trade seminars since the people inviting them actually thought they were contacting the WTO.  This documentary focused on a couple of those events where they would speak at these organizations with fancy powerpoint presentations and say these really outlandish and inhumane things and the humor of it comes from the audience reactions.  This is their official site if you would like to read more about them.
I spent most of today sleeping again.  I do feel a little better – definitely not as congested yesterday although I am still losing my voice if I talk a lot.  I don’t really have much more to say right now but just wanted to post an update.  Grrr. I really need to get my laptop fixed.
