It’s supposed to be good luck to eat Mochi on New Year’s. I smothered it in some sugar, soy sauce and Korean hot pepper paste – mostly the hot pepper paste. Yum!

New Year’s was interesting to say the least. I spent the entire afternoon cleaning the place up a bit. After I cleaned, I started on the prep work for the kalbi. Well, it wasn’t much prep work – just putting the meat into a couple of pans and pouring marinade over it – except the meat was fresh and bloody and that kind of grossed me out a bit. I wanted to take some pictures of all the blood, but my hands were, well, bloody.
One of my neighbors was having a party and invited us over, but since we were already planning to have some people over, they brought us a couple of plates of food instead. I was quite appreciative since I hadn’t eaten anything all day and so I pigged out and had some fried rice, coconut shrimp and some dumplings.
I was ready to go out, but the kalbi was calling me, so I heated the grill pan up and made me a few slices. Mmmmm, it was good. I didn’t get pictures then since I was too preoccupied with cooking, but we are going to be making the rest of it later today, so I’ll get pix then. The bulgogi sauce we got was definitely a good buy and made the meat mighty tasty.
It was about 10pm by the time I was done and so I decided to head on down to my friend’s party. It was an interesting walk clouded by smoke and my ever watchful eyes looking out for any stray fireworks that might be coming towards me.
I didn’t take as many pictures as I wanted to since I started feeling pretty paranoid walking around at 10 at night in my area. The area I live in is pretty ghetto, well most of Hawaii is kind of ghetto. I did get to the party okay though.
It was nice seeing a bunch of old friends. I didn’t get stinking ass drunk, but I did have my first cosmo from the makeshift bar they put together. Mmm, tasty.
They also lit off a ton of fireworks – it was awesome. I didn’t take a lot of pictures of that stuff going off, but I did take a lot of videos. But, I’m probably not going to upload most of them since it takes so long to upload them to YouTube.
