Hurray for Blockbuster!
November 2, 2006
I just got an email tonight about the Blockbuster Online Service. They are changing the program a bit. They are revamping it and calling it Blockbuster Total Access. Oh, what is Blockbuster Total Access? Well, one drawback about these online movie rentals is that I live in Hawaii. Most of the movies are shipped from the mainland and have to be returned to the mainland. So, if I get a movie today, watch it tonight and mail it tomorrow, I would probably get the next movie in my queue in about a week. If I were on the mainland, I think my delay would be maybe 3 days or so. Yea, yea, yea, what a short amount of time to bitch about, but so what?
Well, Blockbuster is now changing the program so that if I get a movie in the mail, I can return it to a store, and when I return it, I get a free in store movie rental! I guess they scan the return and when they do that, the next movie in my queue gets mailed out the next business day! Yippy! So, now instead of getting 4 in store movie rental coupons a month, I get one in store movie coupon, but I get a free rental with every return. I think that’s a pretty good deal.
Of course, I also am happy that I found out that if you go to cancel your membership before the trial period, Blockbuster will offer you the unlimited rentals, (3 out at a time), for $15.99/month for 6 months, instead of the $17.99/month.
I was going to give NetFlix a try, but since I am getting a pretty good deal with Blockbuster, I guess I will stay with them for now.
They are also slowly revamping their website and are finally adding some limited RSS feeds – like top 100 rentals, crap like that, but hopefully they will add RSS feeds for movie queues. I want a movie queue plugin dammit!
