Okay, I don’t really like Garrison Keillor. I think he is pompous and gawd, if he’s so freaking brilliant on his radio show, why doesn’t he come up with some new shtick?
But, I just read this essay he wrote and I now respect him more than I did before.

I went on the treadmill downstairs for about 45 minutes last night. Again, I wasn’t able to walk as fast as I wanted to, sigh.
So, to make up for that, I decided to do a kind of elevation pyramid. I just walked with the zero elevation for about 10 minutes and then slowly increased the elevation every couple of minutes or so. Then I stayed at the highest level for about a minute and then worked my way back down again. Whew! I checked the heart rate monitor and made sure that I kept myself out of the anaerobic zone. It was great.
I don’t know if it’s because I grew up in a hilly area, but I just find it easier to walk at an elevated level on a treadmill.
I was going to do some kind of ab work last night, but I was still pretty tired and just skipped it.
