Work It
October 22, 2006
Ugh, I have been sooo tired lately that I haven’t really gotten the chance to post in awhile, well that and my internet connection getting all wonky doesn’t help either.
What the heck did I do this week?
Well, my cousins downstairs have a treadmill under the house and they told me before I was always welcome to use it, but never did, until this past week and it was soo awesome! I wasn’t able to walk as fast as I used to before, but I was on that thing for like 45 minutes. I felt so out of it after about 10 minutes and thought maybe I was pushing it, but then I got into the zone and just kept going. I would vary my speed and incline every once in awhile and I was drenched in sweat when I was done. It was great. My cousin also just gave me the key to the basement area so I can use it whenever I want! Yay! I think I am going to try walking at least 2 to 3 times a week. I have been wanting to go walking for some time now, but I live in a pretty hilly area, and it’s always sooooo hot here that when I do want to go, it’s just too hot for me to consider even going outside. Then it is too dark when it is cool enough to go walking. Now, if I were in Portland, I would have absolutely no trouble walking around my old neighborhood at night, but I feel like I live in a freaking ghetto here in Hawaii.
The street I live on is kind of unique in this area in the sense that we have curbs – no real sidewalks, but curbs. All the other streets just have asphalt right next to greassy areas that are supposed to be sidewalks I guess, but most people use those areas to park since the streets in my area are 2 lane streets, well, 1.5 lane streets and 2 cars can squeeze by each other. I am not kidding. Plus, Honolulu is VERY car centric and there are so many bad drivers here that I really don’t feel safe walking around here.
Anyways, what else did I do this week? I worked out to one of the Firm add ons from BSS1, I think it was Super Cardio Sculpt. I say think it was because all of the add ons have pretty much the exact same words in their titles, just the order is different. It’s like the company that produced them put 5 words in a bag and those were the only words available to title them. It’s led by Nancy Tucker and is about 45 minutes long. I liked it, but I am so out of shape, I was struggling through it towards the end of the video. :cuss:
I don’t remember if I took a rest day the next day, but the next workout I did was the Leslie Sansone 2 mile walk. It was one of those days where I was sooo tired I didn’t want to do anything, but figured that I should at least do something. It’s short and basic and is only 30 minutes long, so I figured what the hell? I wore my cheap $5 pedometer, and it read that I only walked about half a mile, but I don’t know how reliable the pedometer is and if it read all the side steps and stuff.

The last 2 Firms I ordered arrived the next day! Hurray! I got The Firm Pilates workout with a Band and I got The Firm Resistance Cord workout with a, (duh), resistance Cord. Both of the workouts are 30 minutes long, so I did the cord one first. It was pretty good. I got the medium strength cord, not like I needed another resistance cord, and it was a little weird though. The cord was too “heavy” for some of the moves, but it was just right for others. I just figured, I can use a lighter resistance cord for the “heavy” moves and go back to this one for the rest of the workout.
The pilates workout was pretty good too. I wasn’t going to get it, but did for the free shipping and because I turned in a bunch of coins at a Coinstar machine. What kind of sucked about Coinstar was that their comission for the coin counting was something like 8/10 or 9/10 of a cent, but it is understandable too. However, they are now getting into this thing where instead of getting cash back for the coins, you can instead get a gift certificate for the full amount of your coin turn in. Yay!
I was pretty surprised by the Pilates workout in that it was actually pretty good. I read a couple of good reviews about it, but these new workouts haven’t really gotten a lot of reviews because no one can find them in stores even though they were supposed to go to retail last month. The band it comes with is like 6 feet long and it is a pretty decent, relaxing workout. I’ve only done a few pilates DVD’s and they were okay, but I never really felt anything workout out with them. Honestly, I didn’t really feel like I was working that hard with this DVD either, but the band gives you a little extra oomph which is nice.
I really wanted to do a stability ball workout the next day, but didn’t feel like doing the Firm stability ball workout, and then I remembered that I had one from Cathe Friedrich that came with her Low Impact Step workout. I could never do this workout before since it requires a stability ball. It’s about 30 minutes long and is a beginner toning workout and I really enjoyed it. After that I did the Firm Pilates workout again.
