Work out of the Day
January 17, 2006
I should have started this a couple of days ago – but oh well. A brief introduction on this – I suck at exercising – if I have to come up with something on my own – so I do exercise videos. It’s great – no meat market gyms to deal with and I don’t have to go anywhere to do it. There are a lot of videos out there that are comically bad or super easy – those are not for me. I pretty much just did videos by the Firm last year, but I am pretty tired of the whole Aerobic Weight Training, (AWT), thing right now. I was getting pretty strong with thsoe videos, but I didn’t lose as much weight was I would have liked to – I think it’s because I didn’t really clean up my eating too much, but I follow a healthy diet most of the time, so I wasn’t sure what to change about that – oh I guess I should have stopped eating chips – whatever.
Towards the end of the year, I started mixing things up a little – I got brave and got a beginner Cathe video and that was great. Cathe is super hardcore and very advanced, I hope that I will get strong enough to be able to handle some of her videos in the future.
2 weeks into the new year and I have only done 4 workouts! Shame on me!
Anyways, I did the Turbo Jam Burn on Saturday. It’s pretty short, but it’s the beginning workout to help you learn some of the moves and it is just a lot of fun. I haven’t been working out regularly for the last couple of months, so I need to start off slow again anyways. Turbo Jam is like a mix of kickboxing and bootyshaking. It also uses real songs instead of bizarre instrumentals like in most other videos.
Yesterday I did the Turbo Jam 20 minute work out. I like it but I need to get me some different workout shoes – I got me some cross trainers, but damn, my feet start hurting like crazy wearing those for that – but they are okay if I wear my "running" shoes. I should do that this week – I wonder if I’ll be able to find some lady footlocker coupons. Hmmmm.
Today I did Ramp It Up from Slim in 6. Slim in 6 is a really basic work out – but I could never do the rotation of videos for that – it would just be too boring. Beachbody sells them, but I got my set from Target for like $20 less than what they charge on their website. As a side note, Target also now carries the Kathy Smith Project you for a helluva lot less than on their site too. I would probably get it if I was a big Kathy Smith fan, but I can only take her in small doses.
But I digress – Ramp It Up is okay – It’s one of those high rep/low weight workouts – which are supposed to help you lean out. I am going to be mixing this in with other things for the time being. One thing that is nice about the Slim in 6 workouts though is that they only use a resistance band instead of different weights – so it’s a workout that can travel well.
I think I will stick with the high rep/low weight workouts until I head out to Hawaii.
I really liked the strength I gained with the Firm, but man, my lower half was really starting to bulk up with all of their leg work. The Firm also has pretty minimal cardio and I am going to focus on getting more cardio work done this year.
