Rough

Bah, it’s been a rough couple of days.

Tom and I went out to dinner Friday after work. We went to this relatively new place in the neighborhood called “Lemon Leaf Thai Cuisine.” It was really good. I was kind of full when we went there since I had some home from work and had a snack since I didn’t think we were going out – but that’s cool. The food was good – we had the Spring Rolls and they make theirs with quite a bit of basil, which was different – but in a good way. We also had a soup and a Crispy Basil dish with shrimp and tofu. I definitely want to try the place again. The only drawback to the place is that it is on a really busy street and I didn’t think there was parking, but there is a small lot next to the place.

We didn’t do much Saturday – however I did get Tom to go rake up the leaves in the front that had been there since, oh I don’t know – November. Man, we really need to work on the yard more. It needs more plants and mulch.

Tom also went to another conference on Sunday . It’s some kind of policy meeting about the direction of some agencies or something. He’ll be coming back tomorrow night and thankfully one of his co workers is going to give him a ride home from the airport so I don’t have to drive way the hell out there to pick him up.

I did my usual shopping spree thing after I dropped him off at the airport – Old Navy had a clearance sale – so I got 8 shirts and a pair of pants for $50 – not bad. I also got a couple of gifts for my mom and grandma for when I go to Hawaii on Friday.

I also picked up a copy of Underworld at Best Buy – the movie isn’t that great – but it’s very stylish and I just love female action heroes who kick ass.

Workout of the Day

So, on 1/17/06 – I did the Firm Volume 6 – aka Complete Aerobic Weight Training.

It has a lot of standing leg work doing squats.  I’ve had this video for several years now and it is definitely one of my favorite Firms.  I also recently got a barbell and man, what a difference that makes in doing this workout.  I just substituted dumb bells before and using a barbell definitely makes it tougher.

I didn’t work out on the 18th.  I should have, but I thought I should give myself a rest day since I don’t want to overdo it.

I also got me a couple of new Turbo Jams in the mail today.  I think my mailman might have delivered them a couple of days ago, but put them in a weird place so I didn’t see it.  I just previewed them tonight and they look fun.

Work out of the Day

I should have started this a couple of days ago – but oh well.  A brief introduction on this – I suck at exercising – if I have to come up with something on my own – so I do exercise videos.  It’s great – no meat market gyms to deal with and I don’t have to go anywhere to do it.   There are a lot of videos out there that are comically bad or super easy – those are not for me.   I pretty much just did videos by the Firm last year, but I am pretty tired of the whole Aerobic Weight Training, (AWT),  thing right now.  I was getting pretty strong with thsoe videos, but I didn’t lose as much weight was I would have liked to – I think it’s because I didn’t really clean up my eating too much, but I follow a healthy diet most of the time, so I wasn’t sure what to change about that – oh I guess I should have stopped eating chips – whatever.

Towards the end of the year, I started mixing things up a little – I got brave and got a beginner Cathe video and that was great.  Cathe is super hardcore and very advanced, I hope that I will get strong enough to be able to handle some of her videos in the future.

2 weeks into the new year and I have only done 4 workouts! Shame on me!

Anyways, I did the Turbo Jam Burn on Saturday.   It’s pretty short, but it’s the beginning workout to help you learn some of the moves and it is just a lot of fun.  I haven’t been working out regularly for the last couple of months, so I need to start off slow again anyways.  Turbo Jam is like a mix of kickboxing and bootyshaking.  It also uses real songs instead of bizarre instrumentals like in most other videos.

Yesterday I did the Turbo Jam 20 minute work out.  I like it but I need to get me some different workout shoes – I got me some cross trainers, but damn, my feet start hurting like crazy wearing those for that – but they are okay if I wear my "running" shoes.  I should do that this week – I wonder if I’ll be able to find some lady footlocker coupons. Hmmmm.

Today I did Ramp It Up from Slim in 6.  Slim in 6 is a really basic work out – but I could never do the rotation of videos for that – it would just be too boring.   Beachbody sells them, but I got my set from Target for like $20 less than what they charge on their website.  As a side note, Target also now carries the Kathy Smith Project you for a helluva lot less than on their site too.  I would probably get it if I was a big Kathy Smith fan, but I can only take her in small doses.

But I digress – Ramp It Up is okay – It’s one of those high rep/low weight workouts – which are supposed to help you lean out.  I am going to be mixing this in with other things for the time being.  One thing that is nice about the Slim in 6 workouts though is that they only use a resistance band instead of different weights – so it’s a workout that can travel well.

I think I will stick with the high rep/low weight workouts until I head out to Hawaii.

I really liked the strength I gained with the Firm, but man, my lower half was really starting to bulk up with all of their leg work.  The Firm also has pretty minimal cardio and I am going to focus on getting more cardio work done this year.

Bah Whizzes

Ach.  I don’t believe it, but I did it again and had to reinstall the freaking software again.  So, any previous entry is well – archived – but I have to import them.  Whoopeeee.  I’ll do that later.

I got my ticket to Hawaii last week.  I go there in a little less than 2 weeks now. That should be really interesting.  I still haven’t told any of my buddies there that I am coming for a visit.  I should probably do that.   Just not now, it’s freaking late again.

I have such a hard time sleeping.  I don’t know why I stay up so late all the time.   I suppose it’s because I need the alone time – I talk to at least 60 to 70 different people each day and I just want to get away from people when I am away from work.   Which is also probably why I have such a had time staying in touch with people.   I really to start being social again.
